Ruby Falls Part 2: Under the mountain we go

It's time to see the Falls with Kendall, Kate and PB.
I promise he's excited, he just hides it well.
Still not the best at pics on they fly, but I'm getting the hang of it.

This little thing right here tells you how far down
you are going. Yeah, I   didn't need to see that.

.
Here we go! Under the mountain. It gets a little close in here!

These were the only times I used the flash. It was a lot harder to get a good picture for a newbie like me, but I didn't want to use the flash down here. Just seemed like it didn't belong. That's how I ended up taking almost 600 pictures and only kept about 250! But I guess that all goes with photography.

No we didn't have to walk through this, this is an above the head shot. A girl could get claustrophobic down here.

For whatever reason this picture looks like sunrise out in a field somewhere.
I promise this is in the mountain. It just came out wicked frikkin' cool! Of course if you blow it up it's just a blurry picture of some rocks. But like this, sunset, under a tree, in a field.
It really is beautiful. The way they have set up the lights and you hear the running water.
When it's not dripping on your head.

We're getting closer!

This was also pretty high above our heads. It was hard for  me to get a good shot with the lenses I have. But maybe Sandy Clause will help me with that this year ;0)

And then you come around a corner, through this corridor and..........

This was definitely on the fly and not the best picture. But you only have a few minutes to get through the crowd and try and get a few pictures.

I have a few more pictures I will upload in another post.
I hope you like them. It has all been a learning process for me. ;0)

Ruby Falls in pictures: Part1 The road trip

It was a wonderful day for a six hour road trip!
The weather had been threatening rain all week without a drop falling.
Until it as time to leave for Tennessee. Then, of course, the roof fell out!
The rain slowed to a drizzle but it looked like it was threatening to start all over again at any minute.

Well I wasn't going to drive in that weather!

I couldn't pass this sign up without taking a picture!
Roll Tide!

It wasn't a bad trip at all. Once the rain stopped we started making pretty good time.
I had brought some knitting I intended to finish on this trip, in the end I spent the whole trip looking around for anything that might be picture worthy.
We finally made it to the boys house.

I am not good enough at all my manual settings yet to take pictures on the fly. As you can see this one isn't that great. But it was a quick smile and shoot. It is what it is.

Playing around Saturday night

I was just sitting outside Saturday night and caught a glimpse of the moon coming up from behind the tree. You know I had to break out the camera!

This first picture I think is absolutely awesome. Mainly because this looks creepy as hell. And really it's not, it's just a big oak that stands in the back yard. It's great for tire swings and bird feeders and shading the pool in the hot summer months.
Then I was playing with the camera and got this shot. It's just .... creepy looking to me.
Too  many scary movies I guess.

I had the shutter open for like 3 seconds on this one, yeah, I needed the tripod for sure.
After I got the tripod the pictures came out much better.
See, nothing creepy about the tree in this one.

I was constantly adjusting the iso and shutter and aperture and finally I got this picture.
I think this one is what I was going for.

Anyway, just messing around. Sometimes I like these pictures and sometimes I think "WTH were you thinking when you took that shot?!"
But I guess it's all in the learning curve.

Yesterday There Was Sun

I was drinking my coffee yesterday morning and looked out of the back door and saw something we haven't seen around here in at least a week.
The sun! We have been socked in with fog for the last week.
I get real grumpy after a few days of no sun. I can't photosynthesize.
So I naturally had to grab the camera and snap a few of the sun and that beautiful blue sky.
I finally got to try out one of my lens filters to.
You can tell I took these first few through the screen door. I think it adds character to the pictures.

My Sister Came To Visit

I get to see my sister, her husband and her granddaughter that she is raising maybe once every two or three months. Between living a state apart, kids and life we just don't get together that often.
They came to see us yesterday!

Don't pay any attention to the look on  my brother in law's face, he's harmless.

The Beach, A Man and His Dog

Of course we start with Shiloh because he is handsome.

I learned one thing, I am not good at photography on the fly.
Need more practice.....
